PG Wodehouse A Gentleman of Leisure

Synopsis

JIMMY PITT, of independent means, bet an actor friend who was playing lead in a "Raffles" drama, that any fool could burgle a house, and that he would do it himself that very night. He enlists the services of a professional burglar ; but has the misfortune to select the house of Police-Captain McEachern. That was the beginning of all the trouble, that and Molly McEachern, the captain's daughter. From New York the action of the story is transferred to Dreever Castle in Shropshire, where Jimmy's birds come home to roost with a vengeance. The book is full of humorous situations which have the real "Woody" flavour. Spike Mullins, the burglar, is a new character in fiction.
